How Many Ways Can You Cross A Room?

Several years ago, I was invited to attend a workshop focused on goals and how to be what you want to be in life.

Along with various speakers, there were exercises throughout the workshop for the attendees to participate in if they chose.

One of the exercises was to line up at the front of the room along one wall.

As the volunteers stood along the wall, they were told to think of and focus on their big goal and what they wanted to be/do in this lifetime.

The instructor then explained the exercise.

The exercise was for each person to cross the room (one at a time) but there was a catch. Each person had to choose a unique way. They could not cross the room the same way as anyone else that went before them.

The instructor demonstrated 3 examples and at the end, he said that they could not cross the room the way he had demonstrated because those methods had now been taken.

Right away the volunteers started to react. The common response was “I don’t know another way”.

To add to the perceived challenge, the volunteers literally had seconds to come up with something unique regardless of where they were in the line. Because of this, they didn’t have time to think. They had to get out of their headspace, go with their gut and be in the creative moment of now!

Do you know that by the end of the exercise each person had not only come up with one unique way of crossing the room but two!

Why two?

Once everyone had reached the other wall, the instructor let them know they had to repeat the exercise to get back to the original wall!

Given there were approximately 40 people who participated, the end result was over 80 different ways to cross a room!

It was a very interesting process to watch.

The intent of the exercise was designed to help demonstrate that there is always more than one way to reach our goals. That sometimes the steps and the path may look a little wonky but it can still lead us to our big vision. The exercise was also meant to help us to not get caught up in lack and limited thinking, to be flexible, think outside the box and be in the creative moment of now.

As I sat there watching all of the creative ways people came up with to cross the room, I was reminded of how I was holding myself back from achieving my Big Vision. I was allowing my lack mindsets to get in the way.

As I sat there that day, I realized I was limited in my creative process by my limited thinking. I realized there are many ways I can get my message out; to play big in a way that aligns with who I am and what feels right. I realized there is more than one way to cross the room to achieving my Big Vision.

How about you?

Do you have a big vision?

Are you letting the power of being in the creative moment of now help you create a path to get you there?

I’d love to hear your story.

‘Til next time if you liked this, please social share it. Together we can help create a global mind shift.
