Do you spend time in the moment of now?

Woman sitting on rocks at water.

When was the last time you stopped to become aware of and take in the present moment of now?

It’s understandable if it has been a while or if you have no memory of doing this as in our modern world there always seems to be another item to check off our to-do list.

So much so, that we can often spend our waking hours in a constant state of urgency.

Yet with all of this connecting to what’s going on and getting things done, we can forget that there is more to life than a to-do list.

When this happens, we can disconnect from our “self” and from “all-that-is” in the process.

That’s why taking the time to become aware of the present moment of now can be so grounding and soul connecting.

In the moment of now we are not focused on the past or the future, instead, we are fully in the moment of now.

While the term “be in the present moment of now” can seem like it takes work and effort, it’s actually quite the opposite.

What requires effort, at least in the beginning, is choosing to connect because our ego will want to tell us to finish that item on our to-do list first as if being present in the moment of now will take too much time away from our own engrossed sense of self-importance.

Yet connecting with the current moment of now doesn’t take long and doesn’t require a structured process to do so.

Here are a few ways you might find helpful to connect (provided it’s safe to do so – ie you’re not driving your car).

Stop what you are doing and simply:

  • Become aware of your breathing;

  • Become a conscious observer of your surroundings;

  • Look up at a cloud and notice the shape, the depth, the height;

  • Watch an ant as it goes about its activities;

  • Notice how your heart beats without any conscious effort on your part.

Taking any of these actions will help allow you to stop for a moment and connect with the moment of now.

One of my personal favourite ways to connect with the moment of now is to head to the water which thankfully is only a few minutes from where I live. I love to sit on the dock with my feet hanging over the edge. I watch the ebb and flow of the water. I notice the wind as it blows my hair. I hear the seagulls in the distance. I smell the morning air. I become lost in the present moment of now. In that moment of now, time stands still.

It’s an amazing experience.

How about you?

Will you take some time today, even if it’s only for a few moments to stop and simply ‘be’ and connect with this moment of now; this unity of all that is?

I’d love to hear about your experience.
