The Illusion Of Independence

Do you pride yourself on being independent? I know I tend to.

It certainly appears that to be independent in the 21st century is now a societal expectation and those who demonstrate it are often congratulated as if they have reached a milestone in the game of life. Independence is worn like a badge of honour or a trophy.

But are we ever truly independent?

Instead is independence at its core just an illusion? Is independence simply our ego caught up in the illusion of its own self-importance?

The Illusion of Independence …

While we may strive to be independent and to not be dependent on others, independence is an illusion we have created for ourselves.

Part of this illusion stems from the belief in the illusion that we are separate from everything that ever was, is or will be.

It’s time for a MindShift Moment.

From the time we are conceived to the moment we leave this life, we are dependent on others.

• We are dependent on an egg and a sperm coming together to create our physical body.

• We are dependent on others to care and feed us until we are able to do so ourselves.

• We are dependent on others to grow the crops that provide our food and textiles.

• We are dependent on the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land to sustain us.

The list goes on and on.

The illusion persists.

Yet while we strive to be independent and give the perception we are independent, we actually are inter-dependent on others, other life forms, our mother Earth and beyond.

Once we can take a moment and step back from the ego perspective, it is easier to see past the illusion.

Now imagine if we were all taught to understand the illusion. Imagine what our individual and global reality would be like.
