Do we choose our parents and if yes, why?

Have you ever wondered if you intentionally chose your parents before you were born into this lifetime?

While at this time we have no way of knowing for sure, we can gain a lot of understanding and perspective if we consider this possibility.

For example:

What would that understanding mean to you in terms of the choice you made? Would you give yourself a pat on the back for who you chose or would you want to give your head a shake and maybe even ask for a do-over with a new set of parents?

How would choosing them serve you (and them)? Would you have looked at different aspects of how they were living their lives as a way to help you in your own growth and understanding of your ‘self’? Would you have seen the gift they would provide you even if you knew that at times the gift may not seem like a gift at all?

Would it change your relationship with them going forward? Would it change the relationship you have with yourself going forward?

I know when I opened myself up to this possibility, it was very freeing. It allowed me to see the bigger picture of their role in my life and of mine in theirs. I saw them not only as parents in the traditional sense. I saw them and myself as souls here on a journey of expansion and understanding of all we are. I was able to see the gift I gave myself by choosing them. I saw the gift they gave me in being my parents and guides.

I began to see the interwoven dance of not only my parents but of all the people in my life directly and indirectly. I understood that I am not a victim in my life, I am a creator.

How about you?

Do you believe you chose your parents and why? If not, can you entertain the possibility and what that would mean for you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
