What do you love about what you do for your livelihood?

A few weeks ago, I was speaking with a gentleman who is currently looking for employment. Up until recently, he had been a CFO (Chief Financial Officer) for a relatively large company.

We had never met before.

I introduced myself and asked him what he loved about his former job; what was he passionate about within it.

He talked about how he loved helping people understand and be engaged with goals. How goals help you achieve what you want, how creating milestones help you track your progress, etc.

Not once did he talk about finance.

I pointed that out to him and explained that is why I don’t ask people what they do, rather I ask people about what they are passionate about in what they do.

I said something like — “your official title was a Chief Financial Officer, but it sounds like your passion is to be a Chief Engagement Officer”.

He liked that.

Remember, it’s the passion, not the role or title that feeds the inner-self.
